In the News - Cater Tots battles child obesity.

Cater Tots, with its focus on delivering healthy fresh meals to local school children, is actively working to bring Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" program to Western New York. The federal program has pressed the importance of children's health and is a natural tie-in to Cater Tots efforts to curb childhood obesity in the area.

Cater Tots owners Curtis Knight and Keith Vogel, have been serving child specific food to schools and day-care programs while improving the quality of food served in these institutions.

Cater Tots was created to provide options, allowing local institutions to serve healthy food for reasonable prices that now daycares and schools have been taking notice. "Our meals are reviewed by a registered dietitian so that caloric intake and ingredients are monitored," said Knight. But it's not entirely about the meals being healthy – what good are healthy meals if the kids won't eat them?

"Our menus are created by executive chefs to provide food that tastes so good that the children wait fork-in-hand for lunch to start," said Vogel. Childhood obesity is an epidemic that has garnered national attention and can no longer be ignored. Parents now have options and demanding something better is a responsibility of the family and the educators. It's not only a win for the kids and parents, but a win for childcare programs too. Cater Tots is saving school and daycare programs thousands of dollars every year while providing a culinary experience for the children of Western New York.
